Sarah had been previously married to a Benjamin F. Thomas21 (Mar 25 1896, Huntington County, Indiana),19 who had died Nov 14 1905,22 and by whom she had children Fredrick Thomas (Apr 1897)4,21 and Marie Thomas (Nov 8 1900).4,5,8

On Sep 12 1918 William Henry Hinshaw, age 44, registered for the World War I draft in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana.  He declared he was born Aug 25 1874, and was then residing at 205 W. 4th, Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana where he was a self-employed drayman.  He declared his nearest relative was Sarah Margarett Hinshaw of the same address.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, brown eyes, brown hair.12
