During the Civil War, Albert E. Hinshaw of Greensboro served as a Private in Company A, 139th Indiana Volunteer Infantry.  (Mustered in Jun 5 1864; Mustered out Sep 29 1864).11,12  

At Spiceland MM on 5-2-1874, Albert was received in membership.2  

He married Sarah C. Whitely, Oct 9 1873, Henry County, Indiana.1,2,3,8,13  Sarah, daughter of Robert Whitely & Jane Woolen, was born Dec 11 1853, Indiana.1,2,3,4,8  

At Spiceland MM on 10-11-1879, Albert & wife Sarah & children Uva & Herbert were granted certificates to White River MM.2  

Albert and family were shown in the 1880 census (Jun 24 1880), Penn Township, Jay County, Indiana:4

Hinshaw, Albert, age 34, born in Indiana; father born in North Carolina; mother born in New Jersey; farmer.
Hinshaw, Sarah C., wife, age 26, born in Indiana; parents born in Maryland; keeping house.
Hinshaw, Uva L., daughter, age 5, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana.
Hinshaw, Herbert P., son, age 3, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana.

At White River MM on 11-5-1881, Sarah C. & Uva A. & Herbert P. were granted a certificate to Spiceland MM.5  

At Spiceland MM on 12-3-1881, Sarah & children Uva and Herbert were received on certificates from White River MM (no mention of Albert).2  

Albert E. Hinshaw died Jul 6 1881, age 35y 5m 17d.6,8  

After Albert died, Sarah remarried to Eli F. Stratton on Oct 1 1885, Henry County, Indiana.14  Eli had been previously married on Oct 4 1874 to Elmina Ball.15  

In 1927 Sarah C. Strattan applied for a Civil War pension as widow of Albert E. Hinshaw, 139th Indiana Infantry.12
