INDIANAPOLIS, April 14. (AP) -- Clarence Gorman, 27-year-old Indianapolis carpenter, on parole from a prison sentence in California, was held in jail without charge today in connection with the slaying of a small town banker.

Sgt. Robert Shields, state police detective, said Gorman admitted he fired the shot that killed Fassett Hinshaw, 51, president of the itizens [sic] bank at Shirley, 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis.  He quoted Gorman as saying his revolver discharged accidentally when the victim pushed him during a holdup attempt.

Sgt. Price Cox, state police detective said Gorman dictated a statement admitting the shooting before he knew Hinshaw had died.

Sgt. Cox said he told Gorman then that Hinshaw had died and asked him if he still wanted to sign the statement.  He quoted Gorman as saying, "yes, it's a true statement and I'll sign it."
