Born Oct 3 1897, on her grandfather John Hinshaw's farm, near Hortonville, Hamilton County, Indiana.1,2,3,4  

Mary attended Hortonville Elementary School and gratuated from Westfield High School in 1915.1  

She married Perry Harvey1,5 [Perry Doyle Harvey6, Doyle Harvey7], Apr 14 19171,5, Hamilton County, Indiana1,5.  Perry, son of Sanford M. Harvey & Missouri A. Spaugh, was born May 30 1894, Eagletown, Hamilton County, Indiana.1,6,7,8,9,10  

Perry was the first cousin of Carrie L. Spaugh who married Mary's cousin James Thomas Hinshaw.6

On Jun 5 1917 Perry Harvey, age 23, registered for the World War I draft in Eagletown, Hamilton County, Indiana.  He declared he was born May 30 1894 in Indiana, and was then residing in Westfield, [Hamilton County,] Indiana where he was married and a self-employed farmer.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, light hair.9  

In 1918 Mary and Perry built a home on the Harvey farm south of Eagletown, Indiana, where they lived for the remainder of their lives.1  

Mary and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 8 1930), Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana:8

On Apr 27 1942 Perry ("none" middle name) Harvey, age 47, registered for the World War II draft in Noblesville, Hamilton County, Indiana.  He declared he was born May 30 1894 in Eagletown, Hamilton County, Indiana, and was then residing in Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana where he was self-employed.  He declared his relative/contact was Mary Harvey of Westfield.  He was recorded as 5'11" tall, 200 lbs., blue eyes, blonde hair, ruddy complexion.10  

Mary was organist at Eagletown Methodist Church for 39 years and taught Sunday school for 35 years.1  She was the first president of the Friendly Eagles Home Ec Club from 1940-41, and was an honorary member of the club.  She was a volunteer in the gift shop at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville, Indiana, for 9 years.  In 1983, she was crowned Hamilton County Senior Queen at the age of 85.  Mary was active in Fun For Folks, Outlook Club, United Methodist Women, and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Westfield, Indiana, which she attended regularly.1  She enjoyed making quilts, tatting, sewing, working her yard and playing piano and organ.  In 1977, she wrote the story of her life and presented copies to her family for Christmas.  A copy was placed in the Westfield Library for interested readers.  She lived through an era of so many "first" - she called these the "Golden Years".  At the age of 80 she began writing poetry and wrote more than 900 poems.1  

Perry died Mar 17 1962, Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana; buried Summit Lawn Cemetery, Westfield, Hamilton County, Indiana.1  

Mary E. Hinshaw died Jan - 1988.4
