Garl Edward Hinshaw, Sr.
Aug. 30, 1926 - Jan. 26, 2013
Garl Edward Hinshaw, Sr., 86, died Saturday, January 26, 2013.    He was born August 30, 1926 in Boonville, NC to the late Weldon Ross and Maude Swaim Hinshaw.    Growing up on the family farm, Garl graduated from Boonville High School as a member of the National Beta Club, attended Oak Ridge Military Institute and in 1945 joined the US Army.    In 1946, he was appointed as Second Lieutenant in the 709th Military Police and served in the Allied Occupation of Germany.    While working as a cost accountant at Hanes Dye & Finishing, he met the love of his life, Catherine Crater, and they were married November 24, 1948.    He established his accountancy practice, Hinshaw's Tax & Bookkeeping Service, which served local individuals and businesses for over 30 years.    Garl was an avid golfer, shooting his age first at 63, a feat he would frequently repeat into his 80's.    He was a member of South Fork Baptist Church, having served on the finance committee.    Garl was a kind and gentle man, and his family and friends will miss his bright eyes, warm smile and quick wit.    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Virgil Franklin (Infant), Thad Wesley and Billy Gray Hinshaw.    Surviving are his devoted wife of 64 years, Catherine Crater Hinshaw, son, Eddie Hinshaw, his wife Dawn and their sons, Mitchell and Jesse of Charlotte, NC, son, Dave Hinshaw, his wife, Jennie and their daughter, Catherine of Winston-Salem, and 16 nieces and nephews.    A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at South Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Sewell officiating.    The family will receive friends immediately following the service.    Memorials may be made to Kate B.
