Tommye Jo Darnell Hinshaw
Mrs. Tommye Jo Darnell Hinshaw, "Gunka" and "Granny," 73, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at her home. She was born in Surry County to the late Noah Carlos and Vena White Darnell. Mrs. Hinshaw was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thad Wesley Hinshaw; and a sister, Betty Cockerham. Mrs. Hinshaw is survived by two daughters, Sandra Hinshaw Jordan and husband Gary and Cheryl Hinshaw Tilley; a son, Daryl Hinshaw, and wife Wendy; seven grandchildren, Tracy Jordan Green and husband Billy, Amanda Jordan, Michael Tilley, Robert Tilley, Emily Jordan, Meredith Hinshaw and Wesley Hinshaw; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Green and Dakota Green, all of Winston-Salem; and special friends at Southside Baptist Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Max Furr officiating. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 21, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 401 E. Sprague St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
