Duke DegreesFive Duke University students from the Burlington area received degrees yesterday at the 112th graduation exercises of the university.
Graduates from Burlington include Winifred Glass Rogers, 2410 S. Church St., master of arts in teaching; Mayrant Simons Jr., 2137 Roger St., master of science; Arned Lee Hinshaw, doctor of medicine; and Jack Gardner Wall, Rt. 5, bachelor of arts.
Wallace Clayton Snipes of 116 Carolina St., Swepsonville, received the doctor of philosophy degree.
The following article was published in the "Burlington Times-News" (Burlington, North Carolina) on Thursday, July 9, 1964:13
Europe and World's Fair Una Hinshaw Holder and son, Jimmy, together with with [sic] Ned Hinshaw made a recent trip to New York City where they met Ned's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Arned L. Hinshaw, who were returning to Kennedy International airport by jet from Paris, France. The group then visited the New York World's Fair.
Dr. and Mrs. Hinshaw, formerly of this city, are now living in Durham where Dr. Hinshaw is a member of the surgical house staff at Duke Medical Center.
They toured England, Scotland and France in June. They were in London and saw the Queen, Prince Philip and the Queen Mother at the Trooping of the Colours on June 13, the Queen's official birthday. Dr. and Mrs. Hinshaw then flew from London to Paris where they celebrated their wedding anniversary in addition to enjoying the usual Paris attractions.
Ned Hinshaw visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Hinshaw, Cleveland Avenue, while his parents were in Europe.

Heads Department Dr. Arned Lee Hinshaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Hinshaw of 1302 Cleveland Ave., has been appointed chief of obstetrics and the gynecology service at Womanck Army Hospital in Ft. Bragg. Dr. Hinshaw, a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, is married to the former Virginia Doris Thomas of Burlington and they have two children.

Arned L. Hinshaw's military career spanned 41 years, both active and reserve. He graduated from the Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia. He has served in almost every command or staff level from a squad to the Pentagon and has held every military rank - except Master Sergeant - from Private to Colonel. In addition, he was a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of North Carolina and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Duke University.
