He married Helma Schubert1,5 [Helma Shubert4], Feb 14 19231,5. Helma, daughter of Oswald Schubert & Auguste Weber, was born Dec 28 1897, Texas.1,3,10
Leo became a barber in Sweetwater, Texas.13 According to family oral history, one day Leo was giving a shave to a man just a few years younger than Leo. Leo was a talkative barber and during the conversation he asked the man's name. The customer replied James, to which Leo replied, "that was my dad's first name, James Oscar Hinshaw". The man sat straight up and said ... "That is my dad!" (the customer was Leo's half-brother James Aubrey Hinshaw).13 The family oral history is correct - the story of the brothers meeting was reported in "The Hammond Times" (Hammond, Indiana) on Friday, August 23, 194014 (see scan below).
