Ruby Hinshaw Guess joined our Lord in Heaven on October 12, 2008 at the age of 85. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 15th with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South. Private family burial will take place at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels on Thursday.
Ruby was born in Sweetwater on October 11, 1923 the daughter of Leo and Helma Hinshaw. For many years she was a skilled beautician and has lived in Houston, LaVernia and Abilene respectively. Ruby will be missed dearly.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter Byron Guess, her daughter and son-in-law, Cherryl Jane and Harry "Tex" Westerburg, and her grandson, Robert Doyle Phiffer.
Survivors include three brothers, Hershel Hinshaw and his wife Pat of Abilene, Robert E. Hinshaw of Abilene, and Morris Hinshaw and his wife Eska of Sweetwater; one daughter, Pamela Phiffer and her husband Don of Midland; one son, Byron Guess of Houston; one granddaughter, Shay Minor of Abilene; four grandsons, Kenneth Westerburg of San Antonio, Derek, Devin, and Donny Phiffer all of Midland; six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial donations are suggested to Texas Oncology of Abilene, 1957 Antilley RD, Abilene, Texas 79606.
