David and family could not be found in the 1850 census (at least as indexed), so it's possible that David and/or Elizabeth might have died before then,3 however son Gabriel (with a somewhat unusual name) was also not listed in an 1850 census index. However... the following family is curiously similar,4 and leads to speculation that perhaps David might have died before 1850 (or they were otherwise somehow separated) and Elizabeth returned to using her maiden name:3

Sarah Garner, age 24, born in Virginia.
