Preacher was in the U.S. 5th Cavalry and led the first wave of the assault on Los Negros Island in the Admiraltys, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.  General Douglas MacArthur personally came ashore (on Mar 1?) to award Preacher the Distinguished Service Cross.2,6,7,8  Service #1031248.9

There is a memorial stone for Marvin in Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas,4 but it is uncertain if his remains are actually buried there or somewhere in the Pacific.2
