On Jun 15 1818 the Minutes of the Common Council of the city of New York recorded the following:8

The following persons were appointed Firemen, (the Chief Engineer certifying the vacancies):
...  
"Fire Engine Company, No. 40."  
Linus K. Henshaw, Shoe Mr 175 Mott St. 8 ward

He married Mary Gumble9 [Mary Gumble Munn9].  It is believed that this was Mary's second marriage.9  Mary had a son, John Henry Munn.9  

He then married Rachel -.2,3,4  Rachel was born about 1802, New York.2,3,4  

The first meeting of the board of trustees of York Street Methodist Episcopal Church (Brooklyn, New York) was held Jun 4 1835; shortly afterwards Linus K. Henshaw was added to the church board of trustees.10  

In 1829 Linus K. Henshaw was shown in Spooner's Brooklyn Directory (published by Alden Spooner, at the Office of the Star, No. 57 Fulton-street).  His address was shown as 165 Pearl, Brooklyn, New York.  His occupation was shown as shoe maker.5  

Again in 1830 Linus K. Henshaw was shown in Lewis Nichol's Brooklyn Directory (A. Spooner, printer, June 1830).  His address was shown as 169 Jay, Brooklyn, New York.  His occupation was again shown as shoe maker.5  

Linus K. Henshaw was again shown in the Brooklyn City Directory of 1839-40, 1840-41 and 1841-42.  He was shown as a grocer, address: 98 Bridge.9  

Linus K. Hanshaw and family were shown in the 1840 census, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York (page 448).11

1 male age 40-50 [Linus].
1 female age 15-20.
1 female age 30-40 [Rachel].

Linus K. Henshaw was again shown in the Brooklyn City Directory of 1843-44, 1844-45 and 1845-46.  He was shown with address: 200 Front.9  He was again shown in the 1850-51 Brooklyn City Directory.12  

A "Silas K. Henshaw" (apparently this Linus K. Henshaw) was shown in the 1850 census (Jul 20 1850), Brooklyn, Kings County, New York:2

Silas K. Henshaw, age 50, born in New York; insurance agent; $6000 real estate.
Rachel Henshaw, age 48, born in New York.
William W. Henshaw, age 17, born in New York; clerk.
Sarah R. Henshaw, age 13, born in New York; attended school.
Gilbert H. Henshaw, age 3, born in New York.
Mary Combs [unclear], age 14, born in New York.
John C. Fillicky [unclear], age 18, born in New York; machinist.

L. K. Henshaw was shown in the Brooklyn City Directory of 1856-57.  He was shown as a bookkeeper, with address 200 Front:9

Linus and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jun 15 1860), Brooklyn, Kings County, New York:4

Linus R. Henshaw, age 60, born in New York; bank clerk; $20,000 real estate; $15,000 personal property.
Rachael Henshaw, age 58, born in New York.
Sarah Henshaw, age 20 [or 26 - unclear], born in New York.
John Atkinson, age 23, born in North Carolina; [occupation unclear]; $12,000 personal property; married within the year.
Anna Hofronal [unclear], age 23, born in Germany; servant.
Living next door in 1860 was the family of son William Henshaw,13

Rachel died Jul 26 1865, age 62.3,14  

Rachel's death was noted in the "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" on Thursday, July 27, 1865:3,15

HENSHAW -- Suddenly, on Wednesday, July 26th, Rachel, wife of Linus K. Henshaw.  
Notice of the funeral to-morrow.

Rachel's death was also noted in the "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" on Friday, July 28, 1865:15

HENSHAW -- Suddenly, on Wednesday, July 26th, Rachel, wife of L. K. Henshaw, aged 62 years.  
Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Sunday afternoon 30th inst., at 3 o'clock, from her late residence, 282 Adelphi street, Brooklyn.

HENSHAW -- Suddenly, on Sunday evening, February 14, 1875, Linus K. Henshaw, in the 76th year of his age.

Linus' death was also noted in the "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" (Brooklyn, New York) on Tuesday, February 16, 1875:15

HENSHAW -- Suddenly, on Sunday evening, February 14, 1875, Linus K. Henshaw, in the 76th year of his age.  
Funeral service at the residence of his son-in-law, Jno. A. Charlotte, 293 Adelphi st., on Wednesday, the 17th inst., at 4 o'clock, P.M.
