On Sep 12 1918, Lewis Donald Hinshaw, age 20, registered for the World War I draft in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana.  He declared he was born Aug 10 1898, and was then residing in Lynn, Randolph County, Indiana where he was a high school student.  He declared his nearest relative was "Allie" Hinshaw of Lynn.  He was recorded as slender, medium height, blue eyes, light brown hair.¹⁰  

He married Virginia Hazel Silverthorn^1,6,13,14 [V.E. Silverthorne⁶], Jul 5 1919^1,6,13,14, Wayne County, Indiana^1,6,13,14.  Virginia, daughter of John William Silverthorn & Allie May Liles, was born Mar 15 1901, Ohio.^{2,3,6,12,14,16,17}

Lewis' obituary was published in the Union City Times-Gazette on Tuesday, January 11, 1944:¹⁸

Hinshaw rites to be Wednesday.   Funeral services for L. D. (Don) Hinshaw, trustee of Washington township, who died at his home in Lynn Monday morning following a heart attack will be held at the Lynn Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. William Thorne.   The body will be removed to the residence in Lynn from the Thomas funeral home.  Friends may call after 10 a. m. Wednesday.   Mr. Hinshaw was serving his second term as a township trustee and formerly operated a grocery in Lynn.  He is a lifelong resident of Lynn and had been active in community affairs.
