Born Jul 23 18731,2 [Jul 23 18753,4], Indiana1,2 [Amboy, Miama County, Indiana3,4].  

At Pipe Creek MM on 6-1-1895, Gertrude was received on a letter from First Congregational Church, Amboy, Indiana.1  

Gertrude was shown in the 1920 census (Jan 8 1920), living with (or staying with) the family of sister Jessie, 1105 Boots Street, Marion, Grant County, Indiana:5

Hinshaw, Gertrude, sister-in-law, age 46 [unclear], born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; single; occupation: teacher, common school.

On Jun 9 1920 Gertrude L. Hinshaw was issued a U.S. passport.  She declared she was born July 23 1875 in Amboy, Indiana, and her father, Jesse M. Hinshaw was born in Randolph County, Indiana and was then residing in Culver, Indiana.  Gertrude declared she was then residing in Marion, Indiana, occupied as a public school teacher.  She declared she intended to depart, "from July 20 to 31", from the port of New York, intending to visit France and Great Britain for the purpose of "attend Worlds Conference of all Friends".  Where the pre-printed form stated "I do solemnly swear" Gertrude lined-through "swear", replacing it with "sincerely affirm".  She was recorded as age 45, 5' 3 1/2" tall, brown eyes, brown & gray hair, fair complexion, square face.3  

On Sep 6 1920 Gertrude arrived in the Port of New York (Ellis Island) on the ship S.S. Imperator, having departed from Southampton, England:4
