Born Oct 25 1846, Virginia.1,4,6,7,8  (Oct - 1845).3  

During the Civil War, Charles Hanshew enlisted as a private in Company C, 50th Virginia Infantry.9  He claimed his residence as Tazewell County, Virginia.9  Charles' brothers Samuel and William also enlisted in the same Company.9  

He married Rhoda Jane Harman8,10,11,12 [Rhoda Harmon5], Nov 30 18648,10,11,12, Tazewell County, Virginia8,10,11,12.  Rhoda, daughter of Wilburn + July Harman, was born Aug - 1845, Virginia.1,3,4,8,13

On Mar 13 1920 Mrs. Rhoda J. Hanshaw applied for a Confederate pension as widow of Charles Hanshaw who died Feb 14 1920, Portsmouth, Virginia11 (see scan below).  

Rhoda died 1934, buried Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield, Tazewell County, Virginia.4
