Born about 1840, Canada.1
He married Sarah -.1 Sarah was born about 1844, Illinois.1
James and family were shown in the 1870 census, Seneca, Richmond Township, Nemaha County, Kansas:1
Henshaw, James, age 30, born in Canada; farmer; $500 real estate; both parents foreign-born.
Henshaw, Sarah, age 26, born in Illinois; keeping house.
, age 12, born in Illinois; father foreign-born; works at home; cannot write.
Henshaw, Theresa, age 72, born in Ireland; both parents foreign-born.
It is unknown who the Theresa Henshaw was (above), but from her age it seems likely she was probably James' mother.2 It is also somewhat uncertain as to John above, as he was shown out-of-order (normally children were listed in age order, but there was no guarantee that this was always done). Since he was also born in Illinois like the other children, it seems as though he was probably a child of this marriage, which is what is assumed here, although it should be noted that Sarah would have been only about 14 years old when John was born.
