Nora Swarts, born Jul 1879, Indiana.
Note: the paternity of some of the above children is in doubt. Daughter Rosa Alice Swarts was actually the daughter of Esther Jane Hanshew and her first cousin, Amos Sylvester Hanshew (see below). It appears that Esther Jane had a relationship with her first cousin, Amos Sylvester Hanshew, and apparently subsequently married a -- Swarts. The death certificate for daughter Rosa Alice Swarts recorded her parents as Sylvester Hanshaw (born in Pennsylvania) and Esther J. Hanshaw (born in Tipton County, Indiana)1 (see scan below). Also, the marriage record, death certificate, and the obituary for Sylvester's son, Elmer Franklin Hanshew, recorded his parents as Sylvester and Jane Hanshew.24,25,26 Elmer Franklin Hanshew's obituary also mentioned a half brother. Jesse Maroney. and a half sister, Mrs. Lulu Rose, both children of Esther Jane. But it appears that Esther Jane subsequently married (or had a relationship with) a -- Swarts, as in the 1880 census (above) Rosa Alice [Hanshew] was recorded as Rosa Alice Swarts.3
