On Sep 12 1918 Joe Henshaw, age 45, registered for the World War I draft in Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois. He declared he was born Aug 8 1873, and was then residing in Glen Carbon, Madison County, Illinois, a coal miner employed by Mad[ison] Coal Corp. of Glen Carbon. He declared his nearest relative was Alice Henshaw of Glen Carbon. He was recorded as tall, stout, blue eyes, light hair.1
Joseph and family were shown in the 1920 census (Jan 13 1920), Glen Carbon, Edwardsville Township, Madison County, Illinois:2
Henshaw, Joseph, head-of-household, age 46, born in Missouri; parents born in England; rented home; occupation: coal miner.
Henshaw, Alice, sister, age 34, born in Oklahoma (Indian Territory); parents born in England; occupation: seamstress, at home.
Henshaw, Cyrus, brother, age 29, born in Oklahoma (Indian Territory); parents born in England; occupation: barber, [..unclear..] shop.
In 1957 Joseph was still living in Glen Carbon, Madison County, Illinois.3,4
Joseph Henshaw died May 21 1958, St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, Madison County, Illinois; age 82.5
Joseph's obituary was published in the "Edwardsville Intelligencer" (Edwardsville, Illinois) on Thursday, May 22, 19585 (see scan below).
