John Henshaw4,6 [Cornelius Henshaw1].
Born about 1818, Eccles, Lancashire.1 (c1821).4 (c1818).6
The 1871/1881 censuses show John was born about 1818-21 in Eccles, Lancashire.4,6 The LDS IGI, citing a patron submission, shows a John Lomax Henshaw was born Nov 28 1819 in Eccles, son of a Thomas & Jane Henshaw;7 another IGI patron submission shows John Lomax Henshaw born Jun 29 1823 in Eccles, son of Thomas & Jane Henshaw.7 The IGI also has another patron submission showing the christening of a John Henshaw on Oct 8 1820 in Eccles, son of a William & Ann Henshaw.7 Any of these (or perhaps none of them) might refer to this John Henshaw. They are the only John Henshaws in the IGI from this time period born or christened in Eccles.
He married Mary Doran.1,2,3 Mary was born about 1821, Ireland.4 (c1819, Eccles, Lancashire).1
John/Cornelius and family were shown in the 1851 census, Queen Street, Barton-on-Irwell, Lancashire:1
Cornelius Henshaw, head-of-household, age 33, born in Eccles, Lancashire; wheelwright.
Mary Henshaw, wife, age 32, born in Eccles, Lancashire.
John Henshaw, son, age 13, born in Eccles, Lancashire; silk spinner.
Winifred Henshaw, daughter, age 12, born in Eccles, Lancashire; silk [..unclear..].
John and family were shown in the 1871 census, 93 Percival Street, Manchester, Lancashire:4
John Henshaw, head-of-household, age 50, born in Eccles, Lancashire; wheelwright.
Mary Henshaw, wife, age 50, born in Ireland, house [keeper].
James Henshaw, son, age 23, born in Eccles, Lancashire; wheelwright.
Thomas Henshaw, son, age 20, born in Eccles, Lancashire; unmarried; labourer.
Wm Henshaw, son, age 16, born in Eccles, Lancashire; unmarried; wheelwright.
Rose Ann Henshaw, daughter-in-law, age 23, born in Manchester, Lancashire; cotton weaver.
Ann Lucas, sister, age 60, born in Eccles, Lancashire; widow; housekeeper.
Constantine Doherty, lodger, age 14, born in Manchester, Lancashire; unmarried; moulder.
A widower John Henshaw, believed to probably be this John, was shown in the 1881 census, living in the household of a widow Rebecca Doran (presumably Mary's sister-in-law),8 65 Robert St., Newton, Lancashire:6
Rebecca Doran, head-of-household, age 38, born in Newton Heath, Lancashire; widow; silk winder.
James Doran, son, age 11, born in Newton Heath, Lancashire; shop boy.
Elizabeth A. Doran, daughter, age 8, born in Patricroft, Lancashire.
John Henshaw, lodger, age 63, born in Eccles, Lancashire; widower; wheelwright.
John and Mary apparently were from England (son James was born there), although they were living in Michigan as of 1911 as the death record of son James stated his parents were John Henshaw & Mary, of Michigan.2
