Born 9-18-18521,2, Poplar Ridge MM, Indiana1,2 [Iowa6].  

As a child, Jacob fell from a walnut tree, breaking his back, leaving him a hunchback.2,6  

Jacob was shown in the 1880 census (Jun 26-28 1880), living as a boarder in the J.H. & Harriett Sprong household in Clay Township, Hamilton County, Indiana:6

Hinshaw, Ellis, boarder, age 27, born in Iowa; father born in Indiana; mother born in Iowa; single; day laborer; broken back.

At Poplar Ridge MM on 8-5-1886, Jacob Ellis was granted a certificate to Westfield MM.1  

At Westfield MM on 9-2-1886, Jacob Ellis was received on a certificate from Poplar Ridge MM.1  

He married Hulda J. Condon4,5 [Hulda J. Murray2], Dec 29 18864,5, Hamilton County, Indiana4,5.  Hulda was born Ohio.  

Jacob was a station manager for the railroad; an expert penman and artist, specializing in drawing birds.2  

Jacob Ellis Hinshaw died Feb 11 1887, Terhune, Indiana; buried Carmel Cemetery, Carmel, Indiana.2
