Bill's obituary was published in the "Bainbridge Island Review" (Bainbridge Island, Washington) on Tuesday, May 28 2002:4

Lifelong Bainbridge Island resident, Capt. William Woodward 'Bill' Henshaw, age 91, died May 28 at his home in Winslow.  

He was born in Winslow on June 11, 1910 to Capt. Ward and Margie Henshaw.  He attended Winslow School and was a member of Bainbridge High School's first graduating class in 1928.  He lettered in track and basketball.  

He worked summers for his father on the steamer 'Winslow' and after graduation decided to attend navigation school in Seattle, where he earned his mates licenses and later his masters license.  

He sailed as captain with the Alaska Steamship Company before being commissioned during World War II as an officer in the United States Coast Guard.  

After the war, in 1945, he became a member of the Puget Sound Pilots where he worked until his retirement in 1980.  

He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite mason, a member of the Shriners and a 68-year member of Bainbridge's Renton Lodge.  He belonged to Seattle's Propeller Club and was a longtime member of the Wing Point Gold Club, as well as a supporter of the Bainbridge Island Historical Society.  

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary; his daughter Kay (John) of Bainbridge Island; son Ward (Polly) of Poulsbo; grandaughters Jennifer and katie; stepgrandaughter Kristine and stepgreatgranddaughter Emily.  He is also survived by his brother Jim (Mickey) and their children Dan, Ron, Patti, Brian, Bill, Pamela and Paula.  

He was preceded in death by his brother Jack and sister Margaret Ann Potter.  

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. June 4 at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church.  

Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.

Mary died May 7 2006, buried Kane Cemetery (aka Port Madison Cemetery), Lafayette Ave., Bainbridge, Kitsap County, Washington.7,11,12

Mary McArthur Henshaw, 93, of Bainbridge Island died Sunday.  

She was born in Medford, Ore., to Charles and Clara McArthur.  She married Capt. William Henshaw on Mother’s Day, 1939.  

Mrs. Henshaw was active in PEO and the Dr. Clyde Welsh Guild at Children’s Orthopedic Hospital.  

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Wayne; brothers, Everett and Stuart; and sister, Margaret.  

She is survived by her son, Ward (Polly) of Poulsbo; daughter, Kay Gilmore (John) of Bainbridge Island; grandchildren, Jennifer Giles (Ben) and Katie Henshaw; stepgrandchild, Kristina Rodabaugh; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Capt. James Henshaw (Rosalie); and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church.  Donations: Children’s Orthopedic Hospital or Bainbridge Island Historical Society.  Arrangements: Kass & Cook Family Funeral Home.

Mary McArthur HENSHAW Longtime Bainbridge Island resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 7.  Born in 1912 in Medford, Oregon, she moved with her family to Seattle, where she attended Lake Forest Park School, Roosevelt High School and the University of Washington.  She met her future husband, Capt William Henshaw, in 1934 on a Puget Sound steamboat.  They were married on Mothers Day, 1939.  Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, infant son Wayne, her parents Charles and Clara McArthur, sister Margaret and brothers Everett and Stuart.  She is survived by her 2 children, Kay (John Gilmore) of Bainbridge and Ward (Polly) of Poulsbo, 2 granddaughters Jennifer Giles (Ben) and Katie Henshaw, stepgranddaughter Kristina Rodabaugh, 3 greatgrandchildren and bother-in-law [sic] Capt James Henshaw, his wife Rosalie and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mary was active in PEO and the Childrens Orthopedic Hospital Guild.  She was an early member of Wing Point Golf Club, a supporter of the Arboretum Foundation and a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.  A Memorial Service will be held at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church in Winslow on Friday May 12 at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Childrens Orthopedic Hospital or Bainbridge Island Historical Society.
