Harry and May were divorced in 1938. The following article was published in the "Muskegon Chronicle" (Muskegon, Michigan) on Tuesday, January 28, 1938:6
May Hinshaw was granted a divorce from Harry L. Hinshaw and the plaintiff is to receive the custody of two minor children until each is 16 years old. Mr. Hinshaw is to pay $5 a week for the support of the children and to pay the plaintiff $40 attorney’s fees and $1 in full settlement.
