Born Sep 6 18321 [about 18342, about 18363], Kings County, New York1.

Ellen and sister Cornelia were shown in the 1850 census (Jul 29 1850), living in the household of a William & Julia Jones (probably a boarding school), Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York:4

Ellen Henshaw, age 17, born in New York; attended school.
Cornelia Henshaw, age 12, born in New York; attended school.

Ellen Dorr Henshaw died May 6 1868, Montreal, Quebec; buried May 11 1872, Section D Lot 19785, Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, New York.3,5,6  (Section 183 Lot 19783).5  (Section 101, Plot 5021).7

Apparently unmarried.

Ellen's gravestone shows a date of May [? day unclear] 18687 [see photo below], and New York vital records show she died May 6 1868 in Montreal,3 but Green-Wood Cemetery burial records shows a burial date of May 11 1872.5,6  Apparently after Ellen died in Montreal in 18683 she was presumably temporarily buried there and then re-interred in Brooklyn in 1872.

The diary of a young lady named Mary Emma Ritchie (who later married Albert Howe and became Mary Emma Howe) shows an entry dated early May 1868.  This entry indicated that Mary Ritchie learned of the death of Ellen Henshaw and was saddened.8
