COLUMBUS JUNCTION. Settled in 1872 and incorporated in 1874, is located at the crossing of the S. W. div. C., R. I. & P. Ry and the B., C.R.& N. Ry, in Louisa county, 11 1/2 miles northwest of Wapello, the seat of justice, 40 miles from Burlington by rail, and 115 (air line) southeast of Des Moines. It is the seat of Eastern Iowa Normal School, a prosperous institution, having an attendance of 150 pupils; besides it contains a graded school, a national bank and a weekly newspaper, the Columbus Safeguard. Shipments, grain, live stock and produce. Stages to Columbus City semi-daily. Exp., U. S. and Am. Tel., W. U. Population 1,000. Mail, daily.
