John Kay Hinshaw

John Kay, usually called simply Kay, was probably named after the Rev. John Kay of Castle Douglas, who is thought to have been a godfather to some or all of the John Hinshaw children.²

About 1859 two samplers were made by either John Kay or his brother Andrew (or perhaps one made by each of them)² - see the sampler images below.

John Kay Hinshaw died Jan 18 1860, Hillend Reservoir, Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland; buried Shotts Churchyard, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^1,2

John Kay and his brother Andrew were both drowned in a local pond/loch, Hillend Reservoir in Monkland.¹ See Andrew for the complete story.
