Born about 1834, New York.5  (c1838).3  

He married Julia Whitaker.1  Julia, daughter of Elias Whitaker & - Watson, was born about 1837, New York.1,2,7  (Jun - 1838, Vermont).8  

Andrew and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jul 11 1860), Shields, Marquette County, Wisconsin3 (difficult handwriting - indexed as Hartson but looks like Hansaw/Hansew or similar):

Andrew J Hartson, age 25, born in New York. laborer; $168 personal property.
Julia ", age 22, born in New York.
Oliver ", age 2, born in Wisconsin.
Ambrose ", age 1, born in Wisconsin.

During the Civil War "Jackson Henshaw" served as a private in Company H, 18th Wisconsin Infantry.9,10,11,12  (Alonzo Henshaw).6  

Andrew Jackson Henshaw died Aug 20 1862, Andersonville POW Camp, Macon, Georgia; buried Andersonville National Cemetery.6,11,12  Jackson (Alonzo) died as a POW in Macon, Georgia.11  

Julia remarried in 1864 to Clark B. Smith.13  Clark had been previously married to Sarah Winchel, who died about 1861.13

Shaw, Ada, age 8, born in Illinois; attended school.
Shaw, Clarinda, age 3, born in Illinois.

Julia and family were shown in the 1880 census (Jun 15 1880), Salem, Edwards County, Illinois:7

Smith, Clark B., head-of-household, age 49, born in New York; parents born in New York; farmer.
Smith, Julia, wife, age 42, born in New York; parents born in New Hampshire; keeping house; can read, cannot write.
Smith, Clarinda, daughter, age 12, born in Illinois; parents born in New York; attended school.
Living next door in 1880 was daughter Ada and her husband.14  Also living in Edwards County, Illinois in 1880 was son Oliver.15  

Julia and Clark were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 5 1900), Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois:8

Smith, Clark B., head-of-household, age 68, born June 1831 in New York; father born in New Hampshire; mother born in Massachusetts; married 35 years; occupation: farmer; owned farm (free).
Smith, Julia, wife, age 61, born June 1838 in Vermont; parents born in Vermont; married 35 years; 1 child, 1 living.

Julia and family were shown in the 1910 census (Apr 22 1910), Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois:16

Smith, Clark, head-of-household, age 77, born in New York; parents born in New York; second marriage, married 43 years; occupation: own income; owned home (free); cannot read or write.
Smith, Julia, wife, age 70, born in New York; parents born in Pennsylvania; second marriage, married 43 years; 4 children, 3 living; cannot read or write.
McDowell, Clarinda, daughter, age 40, born in Illinois; parents born in New York; divorced; 2 children, 2 living.

Julia died Jun 20 1918, Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois.17
