Wichita Hinshaw, Wallace Bigham, of Lake Mary, Fla., formerly of Wichita, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001. Service 1 p.m. Tuesday, First Christian Church of Longwood, Fla.
Mr. Hinshaw was born on Aug. 2, 1921 in Herrington. An all-state football player at Lawrence High School, he attended the University of Kansas where he received a degree in business in 1943. He married Mary Elizabeth Love, who preceded him in death in 1988.
He served in the Army during World War II rising to the rank of Captain. After leaving the Army, he joined the Love Box Company in Wichita, eventually becoming secretary treasurer. He was a 32nd Degree KCCH Mason, a former member of the KU Athletic Board and a lifetime Jayhawk supporter and fan. A member of Phi Gamma Delta while attending KU, he later served as president of the fraternity house ownership association.
Survivors: sons, Wallace B. Hinshaw Jr. of Lake Mary, Fla., David L. Hinshaw of Dallas; daughter, Carol H. Swift of Overland Park; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial established with First Christian Church, Longwood, Fla. Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Orlando, Fla.
