Born May 17 1922, Stanislaus County, California.1,3,4,5,6,7  

On Oct 19 1942 Charles W. Hanshaw, born 1922 in California, enlisted at Sacramento, California as a private in the U.S. Army.  He declared he had four years of high school, and was single, without dependents.  He was recorded as 69" tall, 151 lbs.8,9  

He married Phyllis Louise Ames, 1948.10,11  Phyllis, daughter of Earl M. Ames & Naoma Lucas Robertson, was born Jun 17 1927, Roseville, Placer County, California.1,10,12  

Charles William "Chuck" Hanshaw died Apr 13 1976, Stanislaus County, California; age 53.4,6,7  

After Charlie died, Phyllis remarried firstly to Jim Quick and later Jay Lawyer.10  

Phyllis died Sep 18 2011, Lodi, California; age 84.10

Former Sonora resident Phyllis Louise Ames Hanshaw Lawyer died Sept. 18 from injuries sustained in a car accident on Highway 12 in Lodi.  She was 84.  

Born in Roseville to Earl Ames and Naoma Lucas Robertson, her family moved to Sonora in the late 1930s.  She graduated from Sonora High School in 1945.  

She married Charles "Chuck" Hanshaw in 1948.  The couple settled in Modesto, where she worked as a telephone operator for the state hospital system for 30 years.  She worked for the Great Valley Center until the time of her death.  

After her husband died in 1976, she went on to marry Jim Quick and later Jay Lawyer.  

She was a member of the Dixieland Jazz Society.  She enjoyed traveling, dancing, wine tasting, cooking and dining.  

She is survived by her children, Ames Hanshaw, of Modesto, and Leslie Voyles, of Farmington, Mo.; grandchildren, Nathan Norbeck, of Confidence, and Erin Douglas, Shannon Berger, and Sean and Eileen Voyles, all of Missouri; and five great-grandchildren.  

A memorial luncheon is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at a family friend’s home in Modesto.  

McGuire Cremation and Funeral Service in Modesto is handling arrangements.
