Elmer's obituary was published in "The Elwood Call-Leader" (Elwood, Indiana) on Monday, April 19, 1954:9
Elmer F. Hanshew, age 82 of 726 Mill Street, Tipton IN died at 6:20pm Sunday night (April 18, 1954) at a nursing home in Frankfort. He had been ill six months.
His burial was at the Cicero cemetery.
He was born May 18, 1871 in Tipton County. He was the son of Sylvester and Jane Hanshew. He was married to Verda Wiles. She died in 1936. He was a member of the West Street Christian Church, Tipton and was a farmer and a railroader.
Survivors include five children: Carl of rural route, Sharpsville; Melvin of Moline, Illinois; Berdette of Stringer, Miss.; Basil of Tipton, and Mrs. Rosamond VanCamp of Channel View, Texas; a half brother Jesse Maroney of Salem, IL and half sister, Mrs. Lulu Rose of Frankfort.
