T.J. Hanshaw, 214 North Ward Street, holds an old grain reaping hook, estimated age of which is nearly 150 years. Known as a rep-hook, similar tools were known and used before the birth of Christ. The hook was originally property of Hanshaw's grandfather, who was Pennsylvania Dutch. Hanshaw's father, W.R. Hanshaw, brought the hook to Iowa in 1847 when he came on horseback to what is known as Iowaville in Van Buren county. The relic passed to Hanshaw's brother, Elmer Hanshaw, who still lives in the old homestead near Douds-Leando.
