Hazel was a native of Chatham County, a retired mail carrier, and a member of Staley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, J. G. Smith, parents, Willie and Mary Dixon Hinshaw, grandchildren, Mandy Gilley and Richard Smith, great grandchildren, Haley and Sarah Rierson.
Survivors: sons, Bobby Smith, and wife, Denise, Barrett Smith, and wife, Joyce, both of Siler City, grandchildren, Tonya McManus, and husband, Al, Donna Smith, Beth Eaves, and husband, Stuart, Keith Smith, Jennifer Myers, and husband, John, Barrett Smith II, and wife, Shannon, Tracy Fairrington, great grandchildren, Hannah Murphy, and husband, Daniel, Elaina Staley, Adam Rierson, seven step-great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren.
