Born about 18391,2 [Nov - 18413,4,5, 18406], North Carolina1,2.  

It appears that Martha and her brother William were born to a Trougott/Triggett family and then adopted (either formally or informally) by William Hinshaw & Margaret Triggett.  In the 1850 census they were shown as Martha and William Trougott,2 but in later years always as Hinshaw.  

Martha was shown in the 1870 census (Aug 10 1870), working in the household of Jonas + Sarah Rominger, near Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana:3

Henshaw, Martha, age 28, born in North Carolina; domestic servant.
Also living in Hope in 1870 was Martha's brother William.7  

She married Charles E. Miller8,9,10 [Charles Van Miller6,11,12], Dec 24 18728,9,10, Bartholomew County, Indiana8,9,10.  Charles, son of Charles B. Miller & Mary Magdalena Bruner, was born Oct 26 1837, Forsyth County, North Carolina.4,11  This was Charles' second marriage - he had previously married Lydia Jane Snider11 (Ann Lydia Snyder), Jan 27 1867,13 who had died Apr 11 1872,14 and with whom he had children, Martin Silvanes,4,15 Franklin L., Florance, and Charles J. Miller.4

Mary Miller, born c1875, Kansas; apparently died before 1900. 4
Rutherford V. Miller, born Jul 19 1877; died Dec 26 1879, age 2y 5m 7d; buried Sibley Cemetery. 16,17
Sophia M. Miller, born Jan 1879, Kansas. 4,5
Josie/Joyce Elizabeth Miller, born Dec 4 1881; died Aug 20 1882, age 8m 16d; buried Sibley Cemetery. 12,17,18

In March of 1874 Martha and family moved to near Concordia, Cloud County, Kansas.15

Miller, Martha E, wife, age 37, born in North Carolina; parents born in North Carolina; keeping house.
Miller, Martin S, son, age 18, born in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; attended school.
Miller, Franklin L, son, age 16, born in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; attended school.
Miller, Florance, daughter, age 14, born in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; attended school.
Miller, Charles J, son, age 11, born in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; attended school.
Miller, Mary, daughter, age 5, born in Kansas; parents born in North Carolina; attended school.
Miller, Sophia, daughter, age 1, born in Kansas; parents born in North Carolina.

Charles died Mar 2 1894, Sibley Township, Cloud County, Kansas; age 56y 4m 6d.11  

Widow Martha and daughter were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 22 1900), Sibley Township, Cloud County, Kansas:5

Miller, Martha E, head-of-household, age 58, born Nov 1841 in North Carolina; parents born in North Carolina; widow; 5 children, 2 living; occupation: farmer; owned farm (free).
Miller, Sophia M, daughter, age 21, born Jan 1879 in Kansas; parents born in North Carolina; single; cannot read or write.

Martha E. Hinshaw died May 23 1904, Sibley Township, Cloud County, Kansas; buried Sibley Cemetery, Concordia, Cloud County, Kansas.6,12
