Born about 18641,2, Illinois1,2 [Michigan3].  

She married George Goldsby4,5 [William Scott4,6,7], Apr 15 18864,5 [Nov - 18804], Cherryvale, Montgomery County, Kansas4,5 [Eureka Springs, Arkansas4].  George, son of Thornton Boykin Goldsby & Hester King3,8, was born Feb 22 18433,8 [Feb - 18386], Marion, Perry County, Alabama3,8.  

George was a mulatto and didn't want anyone to know his ethnic background, so he said he was of Mexican, Souix Indian and white ancestry.8  In 1880 Arkansas, Effie, being white, marrying George, a mulatto, would have been an illegal/invalid marriage, so she retained her Henshaw maiden name until they were re-married in Kansas in 1886.4  

George Goldsby served during the Civil War, first with the Confederate Army, then with the Union Army.  He was present at the Battle of Gettysburg.  After the Civil War, George served as a Buffalo Soldier, First Sargeant, Company D, 10th Calvalry.8,9  He deserted May 23 1879, never returning and never apprehended, and then assuming the name William Scott.4  

George had been previously married to Ellen Beck,8 Jul 4 1874, Fort Sill, Indian Territory, by whom he had children: Georgia, Crawford "Cherokee Bill", Clarence and Luther Goldsby.8  George was still married to Ellen Beck (never divorced) when he married Effie Henshaw.4

Scott filed a contesting pension application as widow of veteran George Goldsby, alias William Scott.4,19  In a decision Jan 21 1924, the U.S. Department of the Interior declared Effie's marriage to George/William to be invalid, and awarded his pension to Ellen Beck.4
