Born Jan 5 1896, Grafton, Taylor County, West Virginia.2,3,4  

On Jun 5 1917 Lansdale Hanshaw, age 21, registered for the World War I draft in Manhattan, New York, New York.  He declared he was born January 5 1896 in Grafton, West Virginia, and was then residing at 539 W. 155th [street], New York, New York, where he was single and was a "moving picture director" employed by Famous Players, 465 5th Avenue.  He was recorded as tall, medium build, grey eyes, black hair.3  

According to biographer Woodruff, Dale "became an assistant director on at least 3 silent films - 'Flower of Faith' and 'Spell of the Yukon', both filmed in 1916, possibly in Fort Lee, NJ, and 'The Grain of Dust', filmed in 1918, possibly in Ogden, UT.1
