The following article was published in "The Progress-Index" (Petersburg, Virginia) on April 22, 2005:5

PETERSBURG - A gruesome discovery was made Thursday morning in the city.  At the edge of a small patch of wooded area on Dupuy Road, the remains of a decomposed man were located by a property owner.

"I just pulled the truck up and saw him lying there," said Franklin D. Henshaw, who owns the property.  After spotting the remains, Henshaw went to a neighbor's house and called 911.

"We received the first call about the body around 10:15 this morning and police units arrived a short time later," 1st Sgt. P.J. Kelleher of the Petersburg police said yesterday.  "Judging by the decomposition, he's been here about three weeks."

Kelleher said the person, who has not yet been identified, was a white male in his 40s.  At this point the death is being deemed suspicious and is being investigated by Petersburg Police.  Kelleher explained that the death was being termed as a suspicious death because there were no witnesses to determine whether it was natural or not.  He added the remains were too decomposed to determine if foul play was involved.

"Right now, the cause of death is something that is going to have to be determined by the medical examiner," said Kelleher.

Police are investigating whether the death has any connection to a missing person case.  A white male of approximately 40 years of age was reported missing by relatives from Petersburg about three weeks ago.

"At this point though it's too early to tell if the remains are those of the missing person," said Kelleher.

Franklin Delano Henshaw died Nov 13 2010, buried Southlawn Memorial Park, 1819 Birdsong Road, Prince George, Prince George County, Virginia.1
