Sally Hanshaw Watson
Sally Hanshaw Watson, 78, of Algonquin, formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (Nov. 29, 2008) at her home, surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren. Memorial visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kankakee, where she was a member.
Inurnment will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Easter Seals.
Mrs. Watson taught first grade in Arizona before raising her children. She was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Kankakee, the daughter of Armand and Deborah Sanborn Hanshaw. Her husband, Morris Ray Watson, whom she married March 21, 1957, died Jan. 30, 1999. She was a graduate of the National College of Education. She was a former member of Kopa Alpha Theta Sorority. She loved to travel, especially to Door County, Wis., and Santa Maria, Fla.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela Erickson of Crystal Lake, Andrea and Robert Lynch of Palatine, Cynthia and William Veronda of Kankakee; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one sister-in-law, Emma Hanshaw of Tucson, Ariz.
Deceased are one daughter, Rebecca W. VanItallie; her parents; and two brothers, Alan and Wallis Hanshaw.
Sally taught generations how to live life with gratitude and the power of optimism.
