Margaret Hinshaw Abernathy GRAHAM - Margaret Hinshaw Abernathy, 96, of 2479 N.C. 54, died Feb. 18, 2009 at Alamance Health Care.
Mrs. Abernathy was a graduate of Elon College where she was a member of the tennis team. She retired after 30 years of teaching in Alamance County schools. She was the oldest member of Swepsonville United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also an avid UNC fan.
The family would like to thank the following caretakers for their love and support throughout Mrs. Abernathy's illness: Carolyn Farrington, Sherry Thompson, Diana Enoch, Jeri Scott, Dorothy Thames, Paulette Minor and Dr. Sam Morayati.
Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Jones and husband John, of Shallotte and Brenda Frye and husband John, of Vass; grandchildren, Angela Lawrence, of Siler City and Chris Jones, of Florida, Jane Hart, of Vass, Jay Frye, of Asheville; great-grandchildren, Brice, Dakota, Jada, Will and Jack.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C.E. Hinshaw and Bessie Perry Hinshaw; and her husband, Rufus Henry Abernathy; two sisters and one brother.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Rev. Jerry Martin officiating. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
