Ruth Isabelle Hanshaw went home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2010, at CAMC general after a short illness.
Born, January 22, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Martha Annie Backus and Luther Keith. She was born and raised and lived most of her life at her home place in Twenty Mile, WV.
She was a strong woman. She worked hard her entire life, raised 13 children, and was a loving caretaker of her brother Paul Keith. She was and avid advocate for the Black Lung Association. She was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a loving mother, sister, daughter, wife, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Roy Keith, Burley Keith, and Goldie Pritt; a granddaughter, Connie Pritt Park; and a daughter in law, Karen Hanshaw.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carl Workman Hanshaw, of Twenty Mile, WV; her children, Lovell Hanshaw of Poe, WV, Richard Hanshaw and wife Teresa of Twenty Mile Creek Road,Vaughn, WV; Rebecca Pritt and husband Kenneth of Vaughn, WV; Haymond Hanshaw and wife Jo of Lookout, WV; Arvin Hanshaw and wife Shirley of Poe, WV; Lois Hanshaw Teitloff of White Bluff, TN; Freda Holcomb and husband Jim of Adonajah, WV; John Hanshaw and wife Patricia of Twenty Mile, WV; David Hanshaw and Lisa Pritt of Twenty Mile, WV; Dreama Broadaway and husband Michael of Pace, FL; Nathan Hanshaw and wife Sabrina of Pipestem, WV; James Hanshaw and wife Rita of Twenty Mile, WV; Golden Kuntz and husband John of Swiss, WV. Two brothers, Don Keith and wife Betty of Fayetteville, WV; Paul Keith of Twenty Mile, WV; a sister, Bernice Ramsey, of Adonajah, WV; 32 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge with Rev. Buzzy Whittington officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanshaw Cemetery, Poe. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Carl Workman Hanshaw, 92, of Belva, entered into rest October 29, 2012, at home.
Born on February 13, 1920, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Raymond and Virginia Hanshaw. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hanshaw; and son, Linville. He was a coal miner, a minister and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his children, Lovell of Poe, Richard (Teresa) of Vaughan, Haymond (Jo) of Lookout, Arvin (Shirley) of Poe, John (Patricia) of Twenty Mile, David (Lisa Pritt) of Twenty Mile, Nathan (Sabrina) of Pipestem, James (Rita) of Twenty Mile; Rebecca Pritt (Kenneth) of Vaughan, Lois Hanshaw Teitloff of White Bluff, TN, Freda Holcomb (Jim) of Adonijah, Dreama Broadway (Michael) of Pace, FL, Goldie Kuntz (John) of Swiss and Barbara of WV; brothers, Otto, Cebert and J. R, all of Poe; 32 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, WV.
