Viola Hancher

Viola was shown in the 1900 census (Jun 18 1900), living in the household of her aunt (or sister) Sarah Jane (Hancher) Carson in Oregon Township, Washington County, Iowa:²

It is uncertain if Viola was actually the daughter of Robert & Catherine Hancher or if she might have been a granddaughter. She was shown in the 1880 census living with Robert & Catherine Hancher, listed as "daughter".¹ However Catherine would have been well past age 50 when Viola was born; additionally, Viola was shown in the 1900 census with the family of Sarah Jane Hancher, listed as "niece"² (which would make her a granddaughter of Robert & Catherine Hancher). She might have been the daughter of Daniel S. Hancher.³
