Company K At
Camp Robinson

January 4, 1941, was a red-letter day in the history of Company K, Silkeston's unit of the Missouri National Guard.  On that day, with other companies of the 140th Infantry, the company began its first peace time extended training period.

Following a gala going-away party at the new National Guard armory, the Company, almost up to full war-strength, left Silkeston on a special train for Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Arkansas, where until next January, they will train to become proficient as United States soldiers.

Company K has had a long and glorious history.

For the first time in the United States, men of military age were ordered to leave their civilian work, in peacetime, and train for military efficiency.

Company strength was 98 enlisted men and three officers -- Capt. Wade Shankle, and Lieutenants Carl Wilkinson and L. B. Adams.

Col. Harry E. Dudley, commanding officer of the 140th Infantry, Major Tanner C. Dye, supply officer, and Capt. Francis Pfeffer, adjutant, made the trip to the Arkansas camp with Company K.

Members of Company K, other than the three officers named, are
