Of Buffalo, May 13, 2005; wife of the late Donald W. O'Brien; beloved mother of Sean (Barbara) of Grand Island, Donald W. Jr. and Seamus (Hanh) O'Brien, both of Washington state; loving grandmother of Lauren, Francis, Michelle and West O'Brien; sister of the late John (Mary) and Thomas M. Henshaw; daughter of the late John and Florence Boyle Henshaw; also survived by many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.  Friends may call at D. LAWRENCE GINNANE FUNERAL HOME, 3215 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, Sunday 7-9 PM, Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  All are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo, Tuesday at 9:30 AM.  Please assemble at Church.  Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Memorials to The Sisters of St. Mary of Namur Convent, 241 Lafayette Ave., Buffalo, NY 14213 are preferred.

Mary Ann O'Brien, a retired civilian employee of the Navy, died Friday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness.  She was 78.  

Born Mary Ann Henshaw in Rochester, she moved to this area as a child.  She was a 1944 graduate of Mount St. Mary Academy in the Town of Tonawanda.  

Mrs. O'Brien studied piano with the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur for 11 years and started teaching piano under their supervision at age 16.  In addition, she taught piano in her home for more than 50 years.  

She did clerical work at the FBI office in Buffalo in the early 1950s, then for the Veterans Administration.  Later, she was a civilian employee for the Navy Recruiting Office in Buffalo, working as an advertising coordinator for 10 years before retiring in the mid-1990s.  

After retiring, she received a degree in music from Villa Maria College.  

She was secretary of the Calix group at Canisius College and was a lector for 12 years at St. Joseph Cathedral, where she also was a Renew program leader.  

Mrs. O'Brien was active in Buffalo Chapter, Society of Former FBI Women.  She was past president of Mount St. Mary Alumnae, secretary of the Alumnae Book Club and served as vice regent of the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae.  

Her husband, Donald W., died in 1970.  

Surviving are three sons, Sean of Grand Island, Donald W. Jr. of Washougal, Wash., and Seamus of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and four grandchildren.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St.  Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
