William's obituary was published as follows:11
William E. Hinshaw, son of Jacob B. and Malinda Hinshaw, was born April 13, 1865, near Salem, Iowa. Departed this life February 17, 1916, near Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he with his family resided for about ten years, his age being 50 years 10 months and 4 days.
March 15, 1887, he was united in marriage with Julia L. Simkin. To this union were born four children, Mary J., Owen J., Mable M., and Rosina H, all residing at home except Owen who is married and resided on a part of the home farm, all being present at his bedside when he departed this life.
He had a birthright membership in the Friends church and while young in years he accepted Christ as his Savior and has ever after lived an active christian life, being especially interested in Sunday School work.
Besides the wife and children, there are left to mourn his loss three grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters, all residing at White City, Kansas, except one brother who resides at Gridley, California; also many other relatives and friends.
He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, and a man of strong convictions and always stood for the things that according to his belief were right and he is now, we firmly believe, enjoying the fruits of his labors.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fred Comfort, who was his former pastor. Burial in Bloomfield cemetery.
