He married Ella Sonora McDaniels1 [Ella McDaniel8], about 19151. Ella, daughter of Robert Rush McDaniel & Anna Laura Peace1,2,3, was born 18981,2,3 [Sep 19 190010], Arkansas1,2,3.
Ella was from Arkansas and was an orphan.1 Family folklore is that she was half Indian,1 although she was shown as "white" in both the 1920 and 1930 censuses.2
On June 6 (apparently 1918), Joe Aaron Hinshaw, age 26, registered for the World War I draft in Fisher County, Texas. He declared he was born Dec 18 1891 in Llano County, Texas, and that he then resided in Sweetwater, Texas where he was a self-employed stock farmer with a wife and two children. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, light hair.5
Joseph and family were shown in the 1920 census (May 30 1920), living with his widower father in Fisher County, Texas:2

Joseph and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 9 1930), 542 Jeanette St., Abilene, Taylor County, Texas:3
Hinshaw, Joe A., head-of-household, white, age 38, born in Texas; parents born in Texas; first married at age 23; owned home ($10,000 value); radio in home; occupation: rancher, cattle ranch; not a war veteran.
Hinshaw, Ella, wife, white, age 31, born in Arkansas; parents born in Arkansas; first married at age 16.
Hinshaw, Ruby, daughter, white, age 14, born in Texas; parents born in Texas [sic]; attended school.
Hinshaw, Fern, daughter, white, age 12, born in Texas; parents born in Texas [sic]; attended school.

Joe owned a ranch and was a cattleman in Abilene, Texas for many years.1
