Helen Van Dusen

BARTONVILLE - Helen B. Van Dusen, 90, of Bartonville passed away at 4:32 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at her daughter's residence.  

She was born on March 23, 1920, in Bloomington, Ill., to Bert B. and Dessa Lee Prather Hinshaw.  Helen married George W. Van Dusen Sr. on Sept. 19, 1936, in Peoria.  He preceded her in death in 2005.  

Helen was employed by Princess Peggy Clothing as a presser for 22 years, and later by F.W. Means Laundry, where she retired from in 1976.  

Helen is survived by her daughters, Judith (Don) Schmutz of Shelbyville, Texas, Carol (Dale) Slagel of Elmwood, Ill., Susan (Jim) May of Bartonville, with whom Helen made her home, and Linda (Conrad) Wieland of Washington, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald (Pat) Hinshaw of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, George W. Van Dusen Jr.; two sisters, Hazel Freeze and Harriet Shepard; and a brother, Harold Hinshaw.  

Funeral services for Helen will be at 11 a.m. today, May 21, 2010, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, with Pastor Clarence Small officiating.  Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m. May 20 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4234 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61614 or to a charity of choice.
