Earl R. "Barrel" Hanshaw, Jr.  

Earl R. "Barrel" Hanshaw, Jr., 76, of Swatara Twp., passed away Tuesday morning, November 7, 2006, in his home.  

Born April 27, 1930, in Oberlin, he was the son of the late Earl and Kathryn Hanshaw, Sr.

He was a graduate of Swatara High School, Class of 1948.  He was a retired owner of HAPI, Inc.; was a U.S. Naval Veteran of the Korean War; a charter member of the Rutherford Lions Club; a lifetime member of VFW Post 1213; member of American Legion Post 272; and a member of Neidig Memorial United Methodist Church in Oberlin.  

Earl "Pop-Pop" was a loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He was an avid golfer, fisherman and woodworker.  He lived life to the fullest and brought joy to all of those who knew him.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Doris Hanshaw; his son, Robert L. Hanshaw and wife, Sherry; two grandchildren, Keith and Kristen; two great-grandchildren, Bria and Colin Hanshaw; a sister, Virginia Karl, and her husband, Jack; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved yellow lab, Missy.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Inez Reynolds.  

Services to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, November 10, 2006 at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Ann Walker.  Interment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with an honor guard ceremony.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Earl Hanshaw to Neidig Memorial United Methodist Church, Main and Highland Streets, Oberlin, PA 17113.
