The reader should keep in mind that European borders changed frequently, and so although census records show Annie and her husband were born in "Hungary" or "Austria" that doesn't necessarily correlate to what is today Hungary or Austria (the very large Austro-Hungarian Empire, 1867-1918, encompassed much of central and eastern Europe and it would not be unusual for someone from that region to identify himself as "Hungarian" or "Austrian").
