Two killed in head-on collision Saturday
STALEY -- A man and woman were both killed Saturday in an early morning head-on collision between Staley and Siler City.
The accident occurred at 12:12 a.m. Saturday morning on Staley-Snow Camp Road, when a 2007 Pontiac driven by Daniel Bale, 31, of Siler City struck a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander driven by Angela Hinshaw, 40, of Ramseur, according to Trooper C. Palmiter of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Palmiter said that both vehicles crossed left of center and struck head-on. Bale was ejected from his vehicle and died instantly. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Upon impact, Hinshaw’s vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Hinshaw’s vehicle, her son, Michael Bienz, 15, was airlifted by helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Palmiter said that speed was a factor, that Bale was going in excess of 90-100 miles an hour at the point of impact. Alcohol was also suspected to be factor in the collision, he said.
