Amos and his brothers John and Timothy had all moved to Randolph County, Indiana sometime before 1850.2

He then married Elizabeth Linton, Feb 20 1853, Randolph County, Indiana.1,3,4,14  Elizabeth was born May 6 1831, Indiana.1,5,10,11,15,16,17,18  Amos and his brother Abel married sisters: Elizabeth was the sister of Abel's wife Maretta Linton.1

In Jun 1863 Amos registered for the Civil War draft in the 5th Congressional District, Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana:20

Amos and his brother Abel were Civil War soldiers.6,21,22  Amos was drafted as a private in Company A, 9th Indiana Infantry, serving 9 months from Sep 21 186422,23 to Jun 20 186523 (Jul 15 1865).22  Archibald Hinshaw served in the same Company with Amos.23  

Amos came with brother Abel to Missouri in 1865, immediately after the war.  They travelled by river, landing at Burlington, Missouri.  They lived on the bottom land in that area for a few years.  They then moved to Cedar Creek, also Boone County, Missouri.  They built a log house, and later a frame house which is still standing on a farm owned by Luther Clatterbuck.  The farm was very productive and Amos made a good living farming it.  He also raised watermelons on four or five acres of sandy land.1

Living nearby in 1900 was the family of recently deceased son Theron.11  

Amos Ratcliff Hinshaw died Nov 30 1900, Ashland, Boone County, Missouri; buried Millersburg Cemetery, near Millersburg, Callaway County, Missouri.18,26,27,28  

On Feb 15 1901 Elizabeth applied for a Civil War pension, in Missouri, as widow of Amos R. Hinshaw, veteran of Company A, 9th Indiana Infantry.25,29  

Elizabeth died May 30 1905, Boydsville, Callaway County, Missouri; buried Millersburg Cemetery, near Millersburg, Callaway County, Missouri.1,4,15,18  Elizabeth's death was reported Jun 12 1905 in the Fulton (Callaway County) Telegraph, and in the Callaway Weekly Gazette.15
