James E. Henshaw, 81, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Susan (Reidel) Henshaw to whom he was married for 60 years.
Born April 1, 2011 [sic] in Butte, Montana, he was the son of the late Harry and Corletta (Sprenkle) Henshaw.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Henshaw will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011, 11:00 AM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 West Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313 with Rev. Roger Mentzer officiating. Viewings will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Friday, August 19, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dallastown Union Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Henshaw is survived by two sons; Karl Henshaw amd his wife Linda of Red Lion and Kirby Henshaw and his wife Beth of Red Lion, two brothers; Donald Henshaw of Red Lion and Robert E. Henshaw of Red Lion; grandchildren: Eric and Jacklyn Henshaw.
A 1947 graduate of Red Lion High School, Mr. Henshaw was employed as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Red Lion Borough for thirty five years prior to his retirement. He was the 2001 recipient of the Catherine Meyer award recognizing his dedication to his community. He was a life member of the Leo Independent Fire Engine Company No 1, where he was a driver/pump operator for over 35 years. He was also President of the Southern York County Camping Club and a Committeeperson for Boy Scouts of America, Troop #47. He was an avid softball player for several local teams.
Mr. Henshaw’s family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory be made to the Park Bench Fund, c/o Red Lion Borough, P.O. Box 190, Red Lion, PA 17356.
