Piper Marie Gurr
October 13, 1954 - December 18, 2011Piper Marie Gurr, age 57 of Fort Walton Beach, Florida entered into eternal life on December 18, 2011 surrounded by family at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center after a extended illness. She was born October 13, 1954 in Richmond, Indiana and graduated from New Madison High School in 1972. She lived in Richmond, Indiana and New Lebanon, Ohio where she had carried many professions including, Cosmetologist and a Department Manager of Kmart before moving back to Florida if [sic] April of 2001 where she became an Assistant Manager of Dollar General and finally, owner and co-owner of two other businesses.
She is survived by her daughter, Jinnifer and husband John Sullivan of Mary Esther, Florida, step-sons and wives Eric and Candice Gurr of Canton, Georgia, Ryan and Amee Gurr of Castroville, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Adrianna Heather Louise Sullivan, Haylee Ann Sullivan, Dawn Michelle Sullivan and Renee Marie Sullivan, Zach Gurr, Lauren Elizabeth Gurr, Virgina Gurr, Katie Gurr and Kailey Gurr along with her brothers Kenneth Hinshaw of Greenville, Ohio, Jerry Hinshaw of Phillipsburg, Ohio, Charles Hinshaw of Greenville, Ohio and sisters Traci Webb of West Alexandria, Ohio and Cynthia Hanisch of Tipp City, Ohio, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Emory Gurr, mother, Betty Ruth Willis, father, Herman Hinshaw and her twin daughters Dawn Renee Maines and Michelle Marie Maines.
Piper enjoyed sitting at the water’s edge on the bay and painting. She also enjoyed many other activities including playing her organ and guitar, crafting, camping and fishing. Piper was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother and a friend. Whether lending a hand to help, an ear to listen or words of wisdom, she would always put others before herself. Through the many lives and hearts of the people she knew and touched, she will always be loved and missed.
A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2012 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Moose Lodge located at 215 Green Acres Road, Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32547. The family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society in Piper’s name in lieu of flowers.
